While living in Chicago, one of our favorite things to do was to try new restaurants. We really enjoyed the "food scene" in the area and learned a lot about different types of food, preparation and style. We followed chef's as they opened new places and also attended food events such as BaconFest. This was one of our favorite things to do. When we decided to leave Chicago for Houston, we knew it would be a big change in our dining options.
Since we have been in Houston, we have tried a handful of places but we have been underwhelmed by the "food scene". We will continue to try places so we can discover the best restaurants/chef's in the area. Hopefully by the time we have visitors, we will have a great selection of places for you to try.
We first heard about Uchi by watching Top Chef on TV. One of the contestants, Paul Qui, came from their restaurant in Austin, TX. Uchi expanded to Houston in 2012 and we were excited to try out the food.
We sat at the sushi bar and started making our selections:
maguro sashimi and goat cheese
bigeye tuna٠pumpkin seed oil٠ fuji apple
ham & eggs
katsu pork belly٠yolk custard٠espelette
foie sangosho
foiegras٠kale٠edamame٠pumpkinseed
bacon otoshi
pork belly٠fennel٠orange٠apple tare
wagyu tamanegi
shortrib٠onion٠tare
Palate Cleanser
lemon gelato
pistachios, white balsamic
Overall the meal was awesome. We had a great time interacting and watching the chef's as they prepared our dishes at the sushi bar. We will definitely be back to try out other options on the menu.
