The best part for me is the attire! I purchased my first pair of boots last year and I feel like the Rodeo is having Halloween in March :)
Our first order of business when going to the Rodeo is getting junk food. Typically some type of BBQ, fries, sweet tea etc. We finish the meal off at the fried dessert booth. Brian's favorite is fried Nutter Butters and mine is Oatmeal Creme Pies. We typically feel disgusting after eating it but savor every bite!
We then walk around the booths and admire all the Western wear complete with bling and fringe! Our next stop is the Wine Garden where we can relax with a glass of wine while they have a local band play. Live music always generates dancing couples who two-step. I love watching it and hope Brian and I can learn someday. I think it's great to see couples actually moving around a dance-floor rather than rocking back-and-forth like awkward teenagers!
After the wine garden, we typically head inside the stadium for the main events. I am always impressed with how flawless they move through the events. Following the events there is always a concert, typically country, that lasts for about 40 minutes. After watching the rodeo events, I can say I don't think you could pay me enough to ever want to do anything like that.
Brian's favorite event is the calf scramble. They bring about 20 or so teenagers out to catch a calf. Once someone ropes and brings the calf back to the center, they get to keep it!
The reason that this is Brian's favorite event is not because he is cheering on the kids and excited for them to rope their very own calf. No, Brian's favorite part of the event is that inevitably someone always goes for the tail......
And then the calf drags them around and Brian dies laughing. My favorite event is the mutton bustin, which I unfortunately do not have any pictures of. It is were 5-6 year olds ride the backs of sheep. It is adorable! My second favorite event is the chuck wagon races. It's fun to pick a favorite and the whole crowd erupts cheering on their pick!
Overall we enjoy our time at the rodeo and are happy this has become an annual event for us. We highly recommend trips to Houston that coincide with the rodeo so you can experience it as well! The rodeo is in town during the month of March!
