We decided to visit Fisherman's Wharf for lunch. In honor of restaurant week, they were offering an appetizer, entree and dessert as a bundle. Since we were on the coast, we decided to eat at a fish place. The food was mediocre at best and we were thankful to take advantage of the restaurant week discount. The best part of the meal was the dessert.....Root Beer Bread Pudding. On the plus side, it was about 60 degrees outside and sunny therefore we were able to eat outside......in January!!
This was our view towards the bay. We could not have envisioned Texas coast to be any different than this!
After lunch we explored the pier area a bit. They were having a Chili cook-off and we wondered through the booths amazed at the huge, dirty pots that people were anxiously awaiting to try cups of chili from.
Next we headed to the other side of Galveston Island to check out the coast side that opens to the gulf of Mexico. The sand area was small, the water looked brown but it was a beach! We envisioned this would certainly serve the purpose of getting out to the water during the hot summer months (and spring and fall!) We enjoyed listening the waves crash and look forward to bringing our chairs and coolers here once it becomes swimming weather.
We have heard that there are sections of this beach where you can drive up, light a fire and pitch a tent. Brian's inner boy scout cannot wait to camp out on the beach while I secretly hope the movers lost our tent in transit :)
